“One of the greatest treasures of our region”: this is how Portuguese photographer João Rodrigues describes the magic hidden beneath the waters of the Algarve. The talk Living Waters by João Rodrigues reveals photographs capturing unique moments of marine animals in Algarve waters, bringing to light three incredible stories of the natural heritage hidden beneath the surface.
The exhibition portrays the underwater beauty of the Algarve region, part of which is under threat, and aims to help more people discover this submerged treasure, which deserves everyone’s special attention.
The photographs were taken in 2017 in the Algarve Sea, over more than four months of diving.
“I believe that public authorities and other organisations responsible for managing the territory should actively contribute to greater awareness and preservation of the environment. The troubling news about hydrocarbon prospecting and exploration, as well as pollution and overfishing, reinforce my sense of mission to make known what I can see with my own eyes and capture with my camera,” says the photographer.
